Custom Woodworking
Railings, feature walls, cabinetry and one-off pieces built for the room they live in.
Some parts of a house cannot be bought off a shelf. A railing for an open riser staircase, a feature wall that carries a room, a run of cabinets that has to fit an old farmhouse wall that is not square. That is custom woodworking, and it is where Woodwright does its most personal work.
Recent pieces
- A maple railing with iron spindles and maple newel posts for an open riser staircase and upstairs loft in a new home
- A solid wood railing built for safety in a character home, made to match the charm of the original house
- Tongue and groove ceilings, custom window mouldings and doors that tie a modern open plan together
Species, finish and fit
We work in maple, oak, fir, pine and whatever the project calls for, and we will show you the difference in the grain before you decide. Pieces are built to the measurements of your room, dry fitted, and finished in the stain or clear coat you choose. Some clients want the wood left raw so the character shows. That is a choice we respect, and we will tell you how to look after it.
How a custom piece comes together
- We look at the space with you and talk about what the piece has to do and how it should feel.
- We draw it, price it and agree on the details before any wood is cut.
- We build it, fit it and finish it, and we do not call it done until it sits right.
Custom woodworking is often part of a larger project. Woodwright also builds new homes and renovations, so a railing or built-in can be planned into the house from the start instead of added at the end.
